Recent phylogenetic analyses have established that the Epsilonproteobacteria form a globally ubiquitous group of ecologically significant organisms that comprises a diverse range of free-living bacteria as well as host-associated organisms like Wolinella succinogenes and pathogenic Campylobacter and Helicobacter species.
