The membrane dynamics of autophagy in yeast were resolved mostly by using various electron microscopy (EM) methods combined with the cryofixation technique. In addition, the similarity of the dynamic process between autophagy and the cytoplasm-to-vacuole targeting (Cvt) pathway was first clarified through EM studies.
