Majorana fermions are zero-energy quasiparticles that may exist in superconducting vortices and interfaces, but their detection is problematic since they have no charge. This is an obstacle to the realization of topological quantum computation, which relies on Majorana fermions to store qubits in a way which is insensitive to decoherence. We show how a pair of neutral Majorana fermions can be converted reversibly into a charged Dirac fermion. These two types of fermions are predicted to exist…

Search for Majorana Fermions in Superconductors
Majorana fermions (particles that are their own antiparticle) may or may not exist in nature as elementary building blocks, but in condensed matter they can be constructed out of electron and hole
Detection of Majorana edge states in topological superconductors through non-Fermi-liquid effects induced in an interacting quantum dot
It is shown that the presence of the Majorana fermion edge states along the perimeter of a topological superconductor can be probed using an interacting quantum dot coupled to three terminals: two
Majorana Fermions and Topology in Superconductors
Topological superconductors are novel classes of quantum condensed phases, characterized by topologically nontrivial structures of Cooper pairing states. On the surfaces of samples and in vortex
Formation and detection of Majorana modes in quantum spin Hall trenches
We propose a novel realization for a topologically superconducting phase hosting Majorana zero-modes on the basis of quantum spin Hall systems. Remarkably, our proposal is completely free of
Controllable Majorana fermions on domain walls of a magnetic topological insulator
We propose to realize a one-dimensional chiral topological superconducting state at the magnetic domain walls stripe of a magnetic topological insulator coupled with a conventional $s$-wave
Detecting non-Abelian statistics of Majorana fermions in quantum nanowire networks
A scheme in semiconducting quantum nanowire structure has been proposed to demonstrate the non-Abelian statistics for Majorana fermions in terms of braid group. The Majorana fermions are localized at
Controlling Fusion of Majorana Fermions in one-dimensional systems by Zeeman Field
We propose to realize Majorana fermions (MFs) on an edge of a two-dimensional topological insulator in the proximity with s-wave superconductors and in the presence of transverse exchange field h. It
Detecting perfect transmission in Josephson junctions on the surface of three dimensional topological insulators
We consider Josephson junctions on surfaces of three dimensional topological insulator nanowires. We find that in the presence of a parallel magnetic field, short junctions on nanowires show
