The stroma and stromal reaction in normal breast, benign, and malignant breast tissue was studied by electron microscopy. Elastosis is the main stromal response in infiltrating duct and lobular carcinomas. Medullary carcinoma elicits no significant elastosis but intraductal carcinoma has significant local elastosis.
