Knowledge of the twelve elastic constants of wood—three moduli of elasticity (E L, E R, and E T), three shear moduli (G LR, G LT, and G RT), and six Poisson’s ratios (μ LR, μ RL, μ RT, μ TR, μ LT, and μ TL)—is essential in some applications, e.g., in simulations or structural calculation software.
