BACKGROUND Recent evidence suggests that pancreatitis-associated hepatic injury is regulated by inflammatory mediator production. Our laboratory demonstrated in vitro that pancreatic elastase is a pancreatic enzyme that can induce inflammatory cell cytokine production.
