El propósito del artículo es explicar el funcionamiento persuasivo del testimonio de fray Bartolomé de las Casas en la Historia de las Indias, el más complejo y controvertido de la crónica de Indias. El problema central del testimonio reside en su fiabilidad. Para alcanzarla fray Bartolomé elaboró su ethos de testigo. Esto significa que reguló su subjetividad de acuerdo con las convenciones historiográficas para evidenciar su autoridad y así proyectarse como testigo comprometido con la verdad…
