This book is a very welcome addition to the scholarly literature on the history of Rupert’s Land—the territories of the Hudson’s Bay Company (hbc)—during the eighteenth and early nineteenth century. The hbc was a fur trading enterprise, but the terms of its monopoly charter included obligations to explore and study Rupert’s Land.
