In this work we study the possibility of detecting the so-called strong stochasticity threshold (i.e., the transition between weak and strong chaos as the energy density of the system is increased) in anharmonic oscillator chains by means of the 0-1 test for chaos. We compare the result of the aforementioned methodology with the scaling behavior of the largest Lyapunov exponent computed by means of tangent space dynamics, which has, so far, been the most reliable method available to detect the…

An overview of 0–1 test for chaos

The mathematical background of the 0–1 test for chaos is discussed, which is based on the analysis of the long-term behavior of the extension of the underlying dynamical system with respect to the two-dimensional Euclidean group.

Applicability of 0-1 test for strange nonchaotic attractors.

We show that the recently introduced 0-1 test can successfully distinguish between strange nonchaotic attractors (SNAs) and periodic/quasiperiodic/chaotic attractors, by suitably choosing the

A Proof for the Existence of Chaos in Diffusively Coupled Map Lattices with Open Boundary Conditions

We first study how to make use of the Marotto theory to prove rigorously the existence of the Li-Yorke chaos in diffusively coupled map lattices with open boundary conditions (i.e., a

Far-infrared colours of nearby late-type galaxies in the Herschel Reference Survey

We study the far infrared (60–500 μm) colours of late-type galaxies in the Herschel Reference Survey, a K-band selected, volume limited sample of nearby galaxies. The far infrared colours are

This thesis applies neural network feature selection techniques to multivariate time series data to improve prediction of a target time series and results indicate that the Stochastics and RSI indicators result in better prediction results than the moving averages.
