The efficiency of Terahertz photo-conductive switches was overlooked for a very long time. These optoelectronic devices have been dominating so far the fields of optics and ultrafast spectroscopy, however nowadays they are making their way through to new and emerging fields of research where power efficiency is of great importance. To address the efficiency problems, in this contribution, we present a new photo-conductive switch whose design is 3-dimensional. In contrast to conventional planar…

Terahertz Detection with Perfectly-Absorbing Photoconductive Metasurface.

This work improves efficiency of electrical conductivity switching using a network of electrically connected nanoscale GaAs resonators, which form a perfectly absorbing photoconductive metasurface that can be switched between conductive and resistive states with extremely high contrast using an unprecedentedly low level of optical excitation.

Significant performance enhancement in photoconductive terahertz optoelectronics by incorporating plasmonic contact electrodes.

It is demonstrated that the use of plasmonic contact electrodes can significantly mitigate the low-quantum efficiency performance of photoconductive terahertz optoelectronics.

The influence of surfaces on the transient terahertz conductivity and electron mobility of GaAs nanowires

Bare unpassivated GaAs nanowires feature relatively high electron mobilities (400–2100 cm2 V−1 s−1) and ultrashort charge carrier lifetimes (1–5 ps) at room temperature. These two properties are

Efficient Three-Dimensional Photonic–Plasmonic Photoconductive Switches for Picosecond THz Pulses

The efficiency of photoconductive switches, which continue to be used for the generation and detection of THz waves, has been overlooked for a long time. The so far “optics-dominated” devices are m...

Resonant cavities using nanostructured front mirror for efficient LT-GaAs photoconductor operating at λ=1.55 μm

We investigate optical resonant cavities using metallic mirror in order to increase the absorption in low-temperature-grown GaAs (LT-GaAs) based photoconductors operating at telecom wavelength. Two
