The cuff inflator design described has been found to be adequate for clinical purposes. It has a cuff inflation time of less than 0.3 s. It is safe to use as prolonged overpressurisation cannot happen. It is economical to produce, and is sufficiently compact to be mounted on a trolley side by side with the plethysmographic equipment to form a mobile unit, enabling venous occlusion plethysmography to be performed at any location.
