Evidence obtained in multiple experimental models has revealed that cardiac 'conditioning' strategies--including ischaemic preconditioning, postconditioning, remote conditioning and administration of pharmacological conditioning mimetics--are profoundly protective and significantly attenuate myocardial ischaemia-reperfusion injury.
