fixed orthodontic appliances can result in rapid demineralization,1-7 sometimes within only a few weeks after bracket placement.1-3 Vigilant home hygiene, including the use of a fluoride mouthwash, is effective in preventing white spots,6-9 but requires unusual patient compliance.
