The analgesic efficacy and safety of tramadol and morphine were compared in a double-blind, randomized study of 150 female patients after gynecologic surgery. As required, patients could receive up to three intravenous doses of either 50 mg of tramadol or 5 mg of morphine within a period of 6 h. Pain intensity (verbal response score) was recorded before injection and at 0.5, 1, 2, 3, 5, and 6 h after the initial dose; at these times, pain relief was also assessed. Oxygen saturation was…

Comparison of the analgesic efficacy and respiratory effects of morphine, tramadol and codeine after craniotomy *
TLDR
Pain after craniotomy remains a significant problem and the effect of morphine and tramadol patient‐controlled analgesia (PCA) on arterial carbon dioxide tension is unknown in patients having such surgery, but in all three groups some patients had rises greater than 1 kPa.
Comparison of patient-controlled analgesia (PCA) with tramadol or morphine
TLDR
Tramadol PCA can provide effective analgesia following major orthopedic surgery provided sufficiently high doses are given for loading and by patient demand, however, the incidence of nausea/vomiting is also higher causing decreased satisfaction.
An Evaluation of the Efficacy and Tolerability of Oral Tramadol Hydrochloride Tablets for the Treatment of Postsurgical Pain in Children
TLDR
There were no significant changes in hemodynamic variables, respiratory rate, or Spo2 percentages between the two treatment groups or in all patients compared with pretreatment values.
An evaluation of the efficacy and tolerability of oral tramadol hydrochloride tablets for the treatment of postsurgical pain in children.
TLDR
There were no significant changes in hemodynamic variables, respiratory rate, or Spo2 percentages between the two treatment groups or in all patients compared with pretreatment values.
The Median Effective Dose of Tramadol and Morphine for Postoperative Patients: A Study of Interactions
TLDR
The combination of tramadol and morphine was infra-additive and thus not recommended for postoperative analgesia and the nature of their interaction was determined using an isobolographic analysis.
Tramadol in the management of post-operative pain: a double-blind, placebo- and active drug-controlled study.
TLDR
Tramadol proved to be efficacious for PCA treatment of post-operative pain following gynaecological and abdominal surgery and no serious opioid-related adverse events occurred in the patients given tramadol.
Intravenous Tramadol Versus Epidural Morphine for Postthoracotomy Pain Relief: A Placebo-Controlled Double-Blind Trial
TLDR
It is concluded that a single dose of 150 mg tramadol given at the end of surgery provided postoperative analgesia equivalent to that provided by this dosage regimen of epidural morphine for the initial postoperative period.
A comparative study of intravenous patient-controlled analgesia morphine and tramadol in patients undergoing major operation.
TLDR
It is indicated that PCA tramadol is as equally effective as PCA morphine control following major surgery and the incidences of sedation, nausea or pruritus were the same in the two groups.

Postoperative Patient‐Controlled Analgesia with Tramadol: Analgesic Efficacy and Minimum Effective Concentrations
TLDR
Tramadol proved to be about 1/6 to 1/10 as potent an analgesic as morphine when both intensity and duration of effect were considered and could be best described by a log-normal distribution.
Spirometry in Assessment of Analgesia After Abdominal Surgery
TLDR
Some of the patients had multiple symptoms, and so the sum of the above figures exceeds the total of cases exhibiting post-operative syndromes, while three patients were pregnant at the time this report was written and was awaiting operation.
Analgesic effect of tramadol in the rat.
TLDR
It seems that the opiate system may involve in the analgesic effect of tramadol, while the noradrenergic, serotonergic and cholinergic systems may play a modulating role.

TLDR
It is suggested that nurses trained in pain relief methods could greatly improve the relief of pain following operation.
