A one-dimensional multi-layer model is presented to characterise the skin burn process resulting from the application of a high temperature heat source to a skin surface. Transient temperatures were numerically calculated using a finite difference method to solve the Pennes bioheat equation. A damage function denoting the extent of burn injury was then calculated using the Arrhenius assumptions.
