Alchornea triplinervia (Spreng.) Muell. Arg (Euphorbiaceae) is a medicinal plant commonly used by people living in the Cerrado region of Brazil to treat gastrointestinal ulcers. We previously described the gastroprotective action of methanolic extract (ME) of Alchornea triplinervia and the ethyl acetate fraction (EAF) in increasing of prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) gastric levels in the mucosa. In this work we evaluated the effect of EAF in promoting the healing process in rats with acetic acid… Expand
The gastro protective effects of Cibotium barometz hair on ethanol-induced gastric ulcer in Sprague-Dawley rats
The gastric cytoprotective action of C. barometz hair extract might be attributed to antioxidants, an increase in gastric pH, stomach mucus preservation, increased endogenous antioxidant enzymes, decreased lipid peroxidation, up- regulation of HSP70 and down-regulation of Bax proteins. Expand
Protective effect of snail secretion filtrate against ethanol-induced gastric ulcer in mice
The protective effect of intragastrical snail secretion filtrate is demonstrated, in a model of ethanol-induced gastric ulcer in mice, suggesting its possible useful use in the treatment or prevention of gastric Ulcer. Expand
Medicinal plants in the treatment of Helicobacter pylori infections
Traditional folk medicinal use of some of these plants to treat gastric infections is substantiated by the antibacterial activity of their extracts against H. pylori, which may be one of the possible mechanisms by which gastroprotective herbs treat gastrointestinal tract disorders. Expand
Antileishmanial activity of some Brazilian plants, with particular reference to Casearia sylvestris.
Casearia sylvestris showed the most expressive activity against all promastigote forms of Leishmania species and exhibited a strong inhibition against intracellular amastigotes of L. braziliensis, being more effective than the reference drug miltefosine. Expand
Phenolic constituents from Alchornea castaneifolia
Alchornea castaneifolia is a tree growing commonly in several South American countries. It is best known under its Peruvian name Iporuru. The leaves are being used as a folk remedy against numerousExpand

Brazilian medicinal plant acts on prostaglandin level and Helicobacter pylori.
Results suggest that methanolic extract of A. triplinervia did not show acute toxicity, but exhibited an antisecretory property, anti-H. Expand
A new method for the production of chronic gastric ulcer in rats and the effect of several drugs on its healing.
The studies of the healing process of the produced ulcer and the usefulness for the assay method of the curative drugs of gastric ulcer are dealt with. Expand
Influence of aging on gastric ulcer healing activities of cimetidine and omeprazole.
It is indicated that cimetidine and omeprazole have potent gastric ulcer healing actions in 8- and 48- week-old rats, as well as potent serum gastrin-elevating actions, but both drugs are ineffective in 96-week-old Rats, which have lost their gastin-e Elevating actions. Expand
Antiangiogenic effect of a highly selective cyclooxygenase-2 inhibitor on gastric ulcer healing in rats.
The findings that highly selective COx-2 inhibitor delayed ulcer healing in rats and impaired angiogenesis in the ulcer base raise cautions regarding the use of COX-2 inhibitors in patients with gastric ulcers. Expand
Effects of antisecretory agents on angiogenesis during healing of gastric ulcers
It is suggested that PPIs increase the expression of CXCR4 mRNA and thus promote vessel regeneration and maturation, facilitating ulcer healing. Expand
An overview of acetic acid ulcer models--the history and state of the art of peptic ulcer research.
It is concluded that acetic acid ulcer models are quite useful for various studies related to peptic ulcers. Expand
Cell proliferation in the gastric epithelium of the ulcer rat
The unexpected finding in the ulcer rats of decreased LI in undamaged oxyntic and antral epithelium may be caused by a block of the G1 restriction point in the cell cycle. Expand
Plants of the American continent with antiulcer activity.
The present work is a literature survey of plant extracts from the American continent that have been reported to show antiulcer activity and intends to aid the researchers in the study of natural products appropriate to the treatment of stomach and intestinal diseases, in general, and peptic ulcer in particular.
