SummaryA trial was carried out in alpacas(Lama pacos) to determine the economic benefit of controlling both external and internal parasites using ivermectin (Ivomec, Merck, Sharpe and Dohme). After four months the treated male alpacas had gained on average 3·1kg more than the untreated males and their fleece weighed 0·36kg more. Treated females gained 1·9kg more than the controls but their fleece weighed 0·03kg less. This resulted in a net financial benefit to the farmer of US$3·54 for each…

Anthelmintic resistance in gastrointestinal nematodes of alpacas (Vicugna pacos) in Australia

TLDR
The findings document the extent of anthelmintics resistance on Australian alpaca farms and identify those anthel Mintics that are still effective against GINs of alpacas.

First report of anthelmintic resistance in Haemonchus contortus in alpacas in Australia

TLDR
Based on the extent of anthelmintic resistance in sheep gastrointestinal nematodes in Australia, veterinarians and alpaca owners should be encouraged to implement integrated parasite management strategies to improve nematode control in alpacas.

A survey of gastrointestinal parasites of alpacas (Vicugna pacos) raised in Japan

TLDR
It is found that alpacas raised in Japan have gastrointestinal parasitic fauna similar to those in other countries.

Epidemiology of gastrointestinal nematodes of alpacas in Australia: II. A longitudinal study

TLDR
The mixed-effects zero-inflated negative binomial regression model used in this study showed that it could help to design parasite control interventions targeted at both the herd level and the individual alpaca level, and careful attention should be paid when designing control strategies for domestic ruminants co-grazing with alpacas.

A comparison of faecal egg counts and body condition scores in young Peruvian alpacas

This Study looked at the parasite burdens of young alpacas in the region of Nuñoa, Peru. This was performed using a McMaster faecal egg count. The results were then compared to the body condition
