Surface effects of ozone treatment with a fluidized bed-type reactor on carbon black have been studied. It has been observed that the surface oxygen level is proportional to the total volume of ozone supplied per unit area of carbon black surface. The ozone treatment increases the acidity of the carbon black surface. A limiting pH value has been obtained at a surface oxygen concentration of around 6 at %. The surface oxygen introduced on the carbon black is most likely present as carboxylic… Expand

Chemical and Electrochemical Studies of Carbon Black Surface by Treatment with Ozone and Nitrogen Oxide
Abstract In this study it was investigated the surface chemistry of furnace carbon black (CB) particles after exposure to air-oxidative treatments, with ozone and nitric oxide respectively. TheExpand
Mechanisms of surfactant adsorption on non-polar, air-oxidized and ozone-treated carbon surfaces
Ozone treatment of fly ash carbon has recently been reported to inhibit the adsorption of commercial surfactants in concrete paste, thus mitigating the known negative effects of carbon on ashExpand
Heat of immersion calorimetry studies of carbon blacks
Abstract Immersional heats of carbon blacks into n -heptane and water have been investigated. It has been found that the dispersioncomponent of the carbon black surface free energy ( ψ s d )Expand
The application of activated carbon modified by ozone treatment for energy storage
AbstractActivated carbon modified by ozone treatment was examined. The process was carried out in a glass reactor under a continuous flow of ozone through a bed of activated carbon for 15, 30, 60,Expand
Polar and dispersion interactions at carbon surfaces: further development of the XPS-based model
Abstract Enthalpy of immersion (Δ H i ) in water has been measured for a series of ozone oxidised non-porous carbon blacks and, as in our previous studies been found to correlate directly with theExpand
Adsorption of cadmium by activated carbon cloth: influence of surface oxidation and solution pH.
TLDR
The surface of activated carbon cloth was oxidised using nitric acid, ozone and electrochemical oxidation to enhance cadmium ion exchange capacity and there was clear evidence of physical damage to ozone-oxidised fibre, however, acid and electrochemically oxidised samples were completely stable. EFFECT OF OZONATION ON THE ACTIVATED CARBON SURFACE CHEMICAL PROPERTIES AND ON 2-MERCAPTOBENZOTHIAZOLE ADSORPTION
Benzothiazoles are organic compounds that may produce negative environmental impact when released into watercourses. In particular, 2- mercaptobenzothiazole (MBT) are known to be toxic and hard toExpand
Surface modification and characterisation of a coal-based activated carbon
Abstract Surface modification of a coal-based activated carbon (F400) was performed using thermal and chemical methods. Nitric acid oxidation of the conventional sample produced samples with weaklyExpand
Reactivity of wood charcoal with ozone
We investigated the resistance of wood charcoal against ozone and estimated the half-life of the charcoal in air. The weight of wood charcoal prepared by the carbonization of Fagus crenata sawdust atExpand
Ozone Reacts With Carbon Black to Produce a Fulvic Acid-Like Substance and Increase an Inflammatory Effect
TLDR
It is concluded that inflammatory effects of carbonaceous particles on cells can potentially result from an inclusion of a fulvic acid-like substance after reaction with ozone and changes in iron homeostasis following such exposure. Expand
