Effects of exogenous nitric oxide (NO) on the germination and antioxidant enzyme during cucumber seed germination were investigated under salt stress. Seeds of cucumber (Cucumis sativus L. cv. Jinyou 1) were treated with distilled water or NaCl in the presence or absence of NO donor sodium nitroprusside (SNP) during germination. Excess 50 mM NaCl reduced significantly the seed germination rate in a short term and speed of germination. When salt concentration increased, germination of cucumber…

Nitric oxide alleviates salt stress in seed germination and early seedling growth of pakchoi (Brassica chinensis L.) by enhancing physiological and biochemical parameters.
TLDR
It is demonstrated that SNP application on pakchoi seeds may be a good option to improve seed germination and seedling growth under NaCl stress by modulating the physiological responses resulting in better seed Germination and Seedling growth.
Roles of exogenous nitric oxide in regulating ionic equilibrium and moderating oxidative stress in cotton seedlings during salt stress
Using a potted experiment, we studied the effect of slow-release nitric oxide (NO) on the physiological characteristics of cotton seedlings subjected to salt stress (585 mg/kg NaCl). Sodium
Nitric Oxide Alleviates the Inhibition of Salinity Stress on Seed Germination and Seedling Growth of Cynanchum bungei Decne (Asclepiadaceae)
TLDR
It is concluded that NO treatment is an effective practice to improve C. bungei seed germination under saline condition and to improve plant establishment, on saline soils.
Exogenous nitric oxide improves chilling tolerance of Chinese cabbage seedlings by affecting antioxidant enzymes in leaves
TLDR
No protected plants from oxidative damage and promoted the growth by enhancing activity of antioxidant enzymes in leaves sufficiently to lower membrane injury, and exogenous NO had no significant effects on seedling in normal conditions.
Bean seeds under salt stress as a function of nitric oxide
The objective of this study was to evaluate the bean seeds under salt stress as a function of nitric oxide (NO). Four bean genotypes (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) seeds G1 = peanut; G2 = white carioca; G3
Salinity tolerance in Senna macranthera
Studies show the positive effect of the nitric oxide donor in the seed germination process. However, there are no precise reports about which compound present in sodium nitroprusside would cause
Germination and antioxidant action in melon seeds exposed to salt stress
TLDR
The salt stress induced by NaCl diminishes the germination rate of melon seeds, particularly from the osmotic potential of -0.2 MPa, and there is a significant increase in the activity of SOD, CAT and POX enzymes, mainly after 48 h of exposure.
Effect of sodium nitroprusside ( SNP ) on the germination of Senna macranthera seeds ( DC . ex Collad . )
Nitric oxide (NO) has been used as stimulating of the germination process for many species. However, there are few studies evaluating the effect of nitric oxide donor in the regulation of seed
Effect of cyanide by sodium nitroprusside (SNP) application on germination, antioxidative system and lipid peroxidation of Senna macranthera seeds under saline stress
Abstract: The effects of NO donors on germination under saline stress have been much investigated for many species, however, there are reports that the effect caused by donors are effects of cyanide
Mitigation of sodium chloride toxicity in Solanum lycopersicum L. by supplementation of jasmonic acid and nitric oxide
ABSTRACT We investigated the effects of exogenous application of jasmonic acid (JA) and nitric oxide (NO) on growth, antioxidant metabolism, physio-biochemical attributes and metabolite accumulation,

Effects of Nitric Oxide on the Germination of Wheat Seeds and Its Reactive Oxygen Species Metabolisms Under Osmotic Stress
TLDR
It was shown that the increase of the activity of amylase induced by SNP in embryoless half-seeds of wheat in the beginning period of germination (6 h) might be indirectly related to GA3.
Exogenous nitric oxide improves seed germination in wheat against mitochondrial oxidative damage induced by high salinity
Abstract Effects of exogenous nitric oxide (NO) on starch degradation, oxidation in mitochondria and K + /Na + accumulation during seed germination of wheat were investigated under a high salinity
Nitric oxide stimulates seed germination and counteracts the inhibitory effect of heavy metals and salinity on root growth of Lupinus luteus
Abstract Nitric oxide (NO) is a bioactive molecule, which in plants was found to function as prooxidant as well as antioxidant. In the present study, we found that NO donor sodium nitroprusside (SNP)
Nitric oxide accelerates seed germination in warm-season grasses
TLDR
The data indicate that seed germination of warm-season grasses is significantly influenced by NO signaling pathways and document that NO could be an endogenous trigger for release from dormancy in these species.
Involvement of nitric oxide in water stress-induced responses of cucumber roots
TLDR
Results clearly indicate that NO augmentation is likely to help the plant at the initial stage of tissue dehydration to trigger efficient mechanisms, mitigating severe water deficit effects in roots of cucumber seedlings.
Protective role of exogenous nitric oxide against oxidative-stress induced by salt stress in barley (Hordeum vulgare).
TLDR
It is suggested that nitric oxide can effectively protect seedlings from salt stress damage by enhancing activities of antioxidant enzymes to quench the excessive reactive oxygen species caused by salt stress and inducing the increase of ferritin accumulation to chelate larger number of ferrous ion.
Comparative lipid peroxidation, antioxidant defense systems and proline content in roots of two rice cultivars differing in salt tolerance
Abstract The changes in the activity of antioxidant enzymes such as superoxide dismutase (SOD: EC 1.15.1.1), catalase (CAT: EC 1.11.1.6), peroxidase (POX: EC 1.11.1.7), ascorbate peroxidase (APOX: EC
Exogenously applied nitric oxide enhances the drought tolerance in fine grain aromatic rice (Oryza sativa L.).
TLDR
Drought tolerance in rice was strongly related to the maintenance of tissue water potential and enhanced capacity of antioxidants, improved stability of cellular membranes and enhanced photosynthetic capacity, plausibly by signalling action of NO.
The effect of plant growth regulators, nitric oxide, nitrate, nitrite and light on the germination of dimorphic seeds of Suaeda salsa under saline conditions
TLDR
Results showed that 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylate (ACC, the immediate precursor of ethylene), nitrite, GA4 and BA improved seed germination in the presence of salt, however, nitrate, GA1, GA3 failed to alleviate salt stress.
Protective role of antioxidant enzymes under high temperature stress.
TLDR
HDR-77 and HD 2815, which showed highest activity of various antioxidant enzymes under late and very late sowing also showed minimum reduction in chlorophyll content and lower membrane injury index, indicating the amelioration of high temperature stress induced oxidative stress by antioxidant enzymes.
