We examined the role of nitric oxide (NO) in relation to angiotensin II in the rat rostral ventrolateral medulla (RVLM) of the rat in the regulation of arterial pressure (AP) and heart rate. Bilateral injections of L-arginine, an NO precursor, into the RVLM caused a dose-dependent increase in AP. Prior injection of methylene blue abolished the L-arginine effect.
