Melatonin (MT), a tryptophan derivative, plays an important role in the function and survival of organisms. To better understand the role of MT in cold tolerance, the melon (Cucumis melo L.) were sprayed with various concentrations of MT (0, 50, 100, 200 or 400 μM), exposed to cold stress (day/night temperature of 12/6 °C) for 7 d, and then returned to optimal conditions (28/18 °C) for 7-d recovery.
