BACKGROUND Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) involves lung injury induced by reactive oxygen species (ROS), such as superoxide anion, and fibrosis. Superoxide dismutase (SOD) catalyses the dismutation of superoxide anion to hydrogen peroxide.
