To examine the sensitivity of mammalian oocytes and embryos to osmotic swelling, which can occur during the removal of cryoprotectant from cryopreserved cells, the effect of hypotonic stress on the survival of fresh and vitrified mouse oocytes/embryos at various stages was examined.
