Effects of higenamine on Na+, K+ and Cl- transport were studied on stripped guinea pig distal colonic mucosa in vitro using Ussing chambers. Addition of 10(-5) M higenamine induced a biphasic change in short circuit current (Isc): a transient increase followed by a long-lasting decrease that was accompanied by an increase in transepithelial conductance (Gt). The initial phase with an increase in Isc was partially inhibited by serosal bumetanide and abolished by mucosal diphenylamine-2…
cAMP-stimulated Cl- secretion is increased by glucocorticoids and inhibited by bumetanide in semicircular canal duct epithelium
TLDR
These results are consistent with a model of Cl- secretion whereby Cl- is taken up across the basolateral membrane by a Na+-K+-2Cl- cotransporter (NKCC) and potentially another transporter, is secreted across the apical membrane via a Cl- channel, likely CFTR, and demonstrate the regulation ofCl- secretion by protein kinase A and glucocorticoids.
Chloride secretion by semicircular canal duct epithelium is stimulated via beta 2-adrenergic receptors.
TLDR
Findings show that the canal epithelium contributes to endolymph homeostasis by secretion of Cl- under beta 2 adrenergic control with cAMP as second messenger, a process that parallels the adrenergic Control of K+ secretion by vestibular dark cells.
Influence of racemic higenamine on the sinus node
TLDR
The main electrophysiological mechanism of racemic higenamine in the treatment of SSS was the enhancement of sinus node self-discipline and improvement of sinoatrial and atrioventricular conduction function.
β2‐Adrenoceptor agonist activity of higenamine
TLDR
Stable expression of human β2‐receptors in Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cells to measure agonist activity not only confirmed the activity of higenamine at β2 but also closely agreed with the in silico prediction of potency for this compound.
The role of PRAJA and ELF in TGF-β signaling and gastric cancer
TLDR
A mechanism for gastric tumorigenesis whereby defects in adaptor proteins for Smads, such as ELF, can undergo degradation by PRAJA, through the ubiquitin-mediated pathway is revealed.

Regulation of Na-Cl absorption in rabbit proximal colon in vitro.
TLDR
Ion transport in rabbit proximal colon (PC) in vitro is dominated by a Na-Cl cotransport system stimulated by epinephrine, and the effects of specific adrenergic agonists on ion fluxes under short-circuit conditions are tested.
Active potassium transport across guinea‐pig distal colon: action of secretagogues.
TLDR
Association of K+ absorption, K+ secretion and Cl‐ secretion is indicated by similarities in transport mechanism and by secretagogue regulation, and interrelations support a common cellular locus for these ion transport pathways.
Potassium secretion by rabbit descending colon: effects of adrenergic stimuli.
TLDR
It is suggested that K+ transport by the colon can be regulated by adrenergic agents acting via beta 1-receptors, as well as by trifluoperazine but not by indomethacin.
A23187-induced changes in colonic K and Cl transport are mediated by separate mechanisms.
TLDR
The finding that A23187 like arachidonate increases PGE2 release in the absence but not the presence of indomethacin suggest that A 23187-stimulated Cl secretion occurs by a PG-dependent mechanism, while A23 187-induced K secretion occursBy an alternate Ca- dependent mechanism.
Characterization of conductive pathways in guinea pig distal colon in vitro.
TLDR
This study represents the first in vitro investigation of electrogenic transport in this epithelium and shows that it closely resembles transport mechanisms found in rabbit colon.
Submucosal reflexes: distension-evoked ion transport in the guinea pig distal colon.
TLDR
The results suggest that distension of the colon evokes anion secretion by activation of reflex circuits with cholinergic neurons and muscarinic synapses, and prostaglandins and 5-hydroxytryptamine acting at 5-HT3 receptors appear not to be signal substances in the reflex pathway, which evokes the secretory response to distension.
Localization of cAMP‐ and aldosterone‐induced K+ secretion in rat distal colon by conductance scanning
TLDR
K+ secretion induced by aldosterone in physiological concentration is restricted to surface epithelium, whereas cAMP‐mediated K+ secretion is located equally in crypts and surface epit Helium.
Formal analysis of electrogenic sodium, potassium, chloride and bicarbonate transport in mouse colon epithelium
TLDR
It is argued that the use of tissues from transgenic animals is an important adjunct to pharmacological analysis, especially where effects in tissues result in the activation of more than one sort of response.
Endothelium-dependent higenamine-induced aortic relaxation in isolated rat aorta.
TLDR
The findings suggest that the beta-adrenoceptor specificity to higenamine in aorta is different from that of beta-1 in atria; moreover, the Beta- adrenoceptors sensitive to higanamine are mainly located in the endothelial layer.
Different pharmacological characteristics of structurally similar benzylisoquinoline analogs, papaverine, higenamine, and GS 389, on isolated rat aorta and heart.
TLDR
Results suggest that calcium antagonistic action of these compounds is at least in part responsible for vasodilation action, but not for cardiac action.
