We have performed hydrodynamic simulations of galaxy formation in a cold dark matter (ACDM) universe. We have followed galaxy formation in a dark matter halo, chosen to have a relatively quiet recent merger history, using different models for star formation and feedback. In all cases, we have adopted a multiphase description of the interstellar medium and modelled star formation in quiescent and burst modes. We have explored two triggers for starbursts -strong shocks and high gas density…
Effects of supernova feedback on the formation of galaxy discs
We use cosmological simulations in order to study the effects of supernova (SN) feedback on the formation of a Milky Way-type galaxy of virial mass ∼ 10 12 h -1 M ⊙ . We analyse a set of simulations
The formation of disc galaxies in a ΛCDM universe
We study the formation of disc galaxies in a fully cosmological framework using adaptive mesh refinement simulations. We perform an extensive parameter study of the main subgrid processes that
The formation and survival of discs in a ΛcDM universe
We study the formation of galaxies in acold dark matter ( CDM) universe using high- resolution hydrodynamical simulations with a multiphase treatment of gas, cooling and feed- back, focusing on the
The Auriga Project: the properties and formation mechanisms of disc galaxies across cosmic time
We introduce a suite of 30 cosmological magneto-hydrodynamical zoom simulations of the formation of galaxies in isolated Milky Way mass dark haloes. These were carried out with the moving mesh code
We use cosmological zoom-in simulations of galaxy formation in a Milky-Way-sized halo started from identical initial conditions to investigate the evolution of galaxy sizes, baryon fractions,
The role of stellar feedback in the formation of galaxies
Although supernova (SN) explosions and stellar winds happen at very small scales, they affect the interstellar medium (ISM) at galactic scales and regulate the formation of a whole galaxy. Previous
The origin of discs and spheroids in simulated galaxies
The major morphological features of a galaxy are thought to be determined by the assembly history and net spin of its surrounding dark halo. In the simplest scenario, disc galaxies form predominantly
Feedback in simulations of disc-galaxy major mergers
Using hydrodynamic simulations of disc-galaxy major mergers, we investigate the star formation history and remnant properties when various parametrizations of a simple stellar feedback model are
Galaxy morphology, kinematics and clustering in a hydrodynamic simulation of a Λ cold dark matter universe
We explore galaxy properties and their link with environment and clustering using a population of ∼1000 galaxies formed in a high-resolution hydrodynamic simulation of the A cold dark matter
The formation of disc galaxies in high-resolution moving-mesh cosmological simulations
We present cosmological hydrodynamical simulations of eight Milky Way-sized haloes that have been previously studied with dark matter only in the Aquarius project. For the first time, we employ the

Galaxy Formation: Cold Dark Matter, Feedback, and the Hubble Sequence
TreeSPH simulations of galaxy formation in a standard Λ cold dark matter cosmology, including star formation and the effects of energetic stellar feedback processes and of a metagalactic UV field,
Environmental Effects on Evolution of Cluster Galaxies in a Λ-dominated Cold Dark Matter Universe
We investigate environmental effects on evolution of bright cluster galaxies (L > L*) in a ?-dominated cold dark matter universe using a combination of dissipationless N-body simulations and a
The Formation of a Realistic Disk Galaxy in Λ-dominated Cosmologies
We simulate the formation of a realistic disk galaxy within the hierarchical scenario of structure formation and study its internal properties to the present epoch. We use a set of smoothed particle
Disk Galaxy Formation in a Λ Cold Dark Matter Universe
We describe hydrodynamic simulations of galaxy formation in a Λ cold dark matter cosmology, performed using a subresolution model for star formation and feedback in a multiphase interstellar medium
The Cosmological Origin of the Tully-Fisher Relation
We use high-resolution cosmological simulations that include the effects of gasdynamics and star formation to investigate the origin of the Tully-Fisher relation in the standard cold dark matter
The formation of disc galaxies in a cosmological context: structure and kinematics
We present results concerning the internal structure and kinematics of disk galaxies formed in cosmologically motivated simulations. The calculations include dark matter, gas dynamics, radiative
The Assembly of galaxies in a hierarchically clustering universe
We study the formation of galaxies by using $N$-body/hydrodynamics simulations to investigate how baryons collect at the centre of dark matter halos. We treat the dark matter as a collisionless fluid
Simulations of Galaxy Formation in a ΛCDM Universe. III. The Dissipative Formation of an Elliptical Galaxy
We examine the dynamical structure of an elliptical galaxy simulated in the ?CDM scenario. The morphology of the galaxy evolves dramatically over time in response to the mode and timing of mass
Triggering of Starbursts in Galaxies by Minor Mergers
Using numerical simulation, we explore the triggering of starburst activity in disk galaxies which accrete low-mass dwarf companions. In response to the tidal perturbation of an infalling satellite,
Formation of Disk Galaxies: Warm Dark Matter and the Angular Momentum Problem
We have performed TreeSPH simulations of disk galaxy formation in various warm dark matter (WDM) cosmologies. Our results indicate that for a range of WDM free-streaming masses, the disk galaxy
