6R-L-erythro-5, 6, 7, 8-tetrahydrobiopterin (6R-BH4) is a coenzyme for tyrosine, tryptophan and phenylalanine hydroxylases, the former two of which are the initial and the rate-limiting enzymes in the biosynthesis of the catecholamines and serotonin, respectively.
