Results from animal and in vitro studies suggest that essential fatty acid (EFA) deficiency enhances cell-mediated immunity by reducing production of prostaglandins with immunosuppressive actions. However, direct experimental evidence that EFA deficiency enhances T-lymphocyte function in vivo has not been obtained.
