We conducted laboratory and field experiments to investigate turtl es’ behavioral responses to baits of different colors with the ultimate goal of identifying visual modifications that would repel marine turtles from biting longline fishing bait. Colored bait trials were tested on two species of captive sea turtles— Kemp’s ridley (Lepidochelys kempii ) and loggerhead turtles (Caretta caretta ) during the period 2000 to 2003.
