The effects of clinical grade crude preparations of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) on Kaposi's sarcoma, HIV, SIV and hematopoiesis were examined in vitro and in vivo. In contrast to previous studies, we report that the antiviral activity of hCG associated factors is not due to the native hCC heterodimer, including its purified subunits or its major degradation product, the β-core.
