In the intervention we used social-oriented presentation formats, such as discussion between similar females and role-play. In a pretest and posttest experimental study with an intervention group (n = 210) and control group (n = 210), we investigated the effects on HIV/AIDS knowledge and social cognitions…

Effectiveness of using comic books to communicate HIV and AIDS messages to in-school youth: Insights from a pilot intervention study in Nairobi, Kenya
TLDR
The findings show that the comic books were effective in improving students’ knowledge about modes of infection, enhancing communication about the epidemic among them, positively changing their attitudes towards people living with HIV, reducing their fear and increasing their likelihood and intention of getting tested for HIV.
HIV/AIDS Communication Inequalities and Associated Cognitive and Affective Outcomes: A Call for a Socioecological Approach to AIDS Communication in Sub-Saharan Africa
TLDR
It is proposed that HIV prevention media and message effects in high epidemic situations should be considered from a larger community-level perspective and calls for a socioecological approach to AIDS communication in the hard-hit sub-Saharan Africa.
Aligning HIV/AIDS Communication With the Oral Tradition of Africans: A Theory-Based Content Analysis of Songs’ Potential in Prevention Efforts
TLDR
It is argued that given their potential as a culturally appropriate strategy in Sub-Saharan Africa where oral channels of communication play significant roles, songs could be harnessed for better outcomes through a theory-based design.
Determinants of HIV/AIDS-Related Information Needs and Media Use: Beyond Individual-Level Factors
TLDR
Analysis of individual-level and socioecological determinants among urban and rural residents in northwest Ethiopia showed that urbanity versus rurality and education are the major determinants of HIV/AIDS-related information needs and media use.
A Radio Drama’s Effects on HIV Attitudes and Policy Priorities: A Field Experiment in Tanzania
TLDR
A condensed version of a popular Swahili radio drama was presented to rural Tanzanians as part of a placebo-controlled experiment, producing sizable and statistically significant effects on listeners’ preference for hypothetical candidates promising improved HIV/AIDS treatment.
Media use and HIV/AIDS knowledge: a knowledge gap perspective.
TLDR
Current mass media information campaigns may not only fail to improve the HIV/AIDS knowledge of the rural populace but also put rural populations at a disadvantage relative to their urban counterparts.
The Relative Persuasiveness of Gain-Framed Versus Loss-Framed HIV Testing Message: Evidence From a Field Experiment in Northwest Ethiopia
TLDR
Gain- and loss- framing led to similar outcomes among individuals with low levels of experience with HIV testing, with a slight advantage for the loss-framed message.
Het effect van het HIV/AIDS-voorlichtingsprogramma 'Be Proud! Be Responsible!' op abstinentie en condoomgebruik onder jongeren in Masaka, Oeganda
The virus HIV/AIDS is one of the major causes of death in Uganda. In spite of the large amount of strategies for HIV/AIDS-prevention, the number of people who are affected by HIV/AIDS is rising.
Comprehensive Knowledge of HIV among Women in Rural Mozambique: Development and Validation of the HIV Knowledge 27 Scale
TLDR
The HK-27 is a reliable and valid measure of HIV knowledge among Portuguese and Echuabo-speaking Mozambican women, and higher scores were associated with higher HIV testing probability.
Gender, Sexual Self-Efficacy and Consistent Condom Use Among Adolescents Living in the HIV Hyper-Endemic Setting of Soweto, South Africa

Theory of planned behaviour predictors of intention to use condoms among Xhosa adolescents in South Africa
TLDR
The theory of planned behaviour may be a useful model of condoms use among Xhosa-speaking South African adolescents and an emphasis on beliefs about the adverse effects of condom use on sexual enjoyment, the ability to negotiate condom use, and the abilityto use condoms correctly might improve the efficacy of HIV/STD interventions for such adolescents.
