The effects of a macroalgal mat (Ulva lactuca) on intertidal sand flat copepods were studied in Jamaica Bay, NY. In 1999, Ulva was removed from paired quadrats in the algal mat. Density and species richness were estimated from sediment cores over seven biweekly periods and compared with Ulva-removal quadrats and with an unvegetated reference site.
