Transforming growth factor β (TGF-β) is overexpressed in a wide variety of cancer types including lung adenocarcinoma (LAC), and the TGF-β signaling pathway plays an important role in tumor development. To determine whether blockade of the TGF-β signaling pathway can inhibit the malignant biological behavior of LAC, RNA interference (RNAi) technology was used to silence the expression of TGF-β receptor, type II (TGFβRII) in the LAC cell line, A549, and its effects on cell proliferation…

Transforming Growth Factor β1 Promotes Migration and Invasion of Human Hepatocellular Carcinoma Cells Via Up-Regulation of Connective Tissue Growth Factor
TLDR
It is demonstrated that the in vitro migration of the HCC cell line SMMC-7721 is increased in the presence of recombinant TGF-β1, and that this effect is reversed by the specific inhibitor SB431542.
Gene Silencing of TGFβRII Can Inhibit Glioblastoma Cell Growth
TLDR
The results suggest that TGFβ RII silencing can be a promising complementary treatment for glioma.
CXCR7 mediates TGFβ1-promoted EMT and tumor-initiating features in lung cancer
TLDR
The results suggest that the TGFβ1-CXCR7 axis may be a prognostic marker and may provide novel targets for combinational therapies to be used in the treatment of advanced lung cancer in the future.
miR-519d-3p Overexpression Inhibits P38 and PI3K/AKT Pathway via Targeting VEGFA to Attenuate the Malignant Biological Behavior of Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer
TLDR
The data indicated that miR-519d-3p could be a novel therapy or adjuvant against NSCLC.
Blocking of SMAD4 expression by shRNA effectively inhibits fibrogenesis of human hepatic stellate cells
TLDR
The results of this study suggested that knockdown of SMAD4 expression in stellate cell can control the progression of fibrogenesis through TGF-β pathway blocking.
MicroRNA-34a inhibits the proliferation and promotes the apoptosis of non-small cell lung cancer H1299 cell line by targeting TGFβR2
TLDR
It is demonstrated that miR-34a could inhibit the proliferation and promote the apoptosis of H1299 cells partially through the downregulation of its target gene TGFβR2.
TGF-β – an excellent servant but a bad master
TLDR
Current understanding of TGF-β signaling and different mechanisms that lead to its impairment in various solid tumors and hematological malignancies are reviewed.
miR-328-3p overexpression attenuates the malignant proliferation and invasion of liver cancer via targeting Endoplasmic Reticulum Metallo Protease 1 to inhibit AKT phosphorylation.
TLDR
Findings suggested that miR-328-3p could be a new treatment or a novel marker for liver cancer prognosis.
Fucoidan inhibition of lung cancer in vivo and in vitro: role of the Smurf2-dependent ubiquitin proteasome pathway in TGFβ receptor degradation
TLDR
This study is the first to identify a novel mechanism for the antitumor activity of fucoidan, namely decreasing tumor growth by modulating the TGFR/Smad7/Smurf2-dependent axis, leading to TGFR protein degradation and inhibition of lung cancer cell progression in vitro and in vivo.
GDF15 induced apoptosis and cytotoxicity in A549 cells depends on TGFBR2 expression
TLDR
The results indicated that the effect of GDF15 on apoptosis and activation of MAPK in A549 cells depends on TGFBR2 expression, which may point to mechanisms in which GDF 15 exerts dual effect during carcinogenesis with regard to TGF BR2 expression.

Targeting the Transforming Growth Factor-β pathway inhibits human basal-like breast cancer metastasis
TLDR
These studies support the notion that TGF-β plays an important role in both bone-and lung metastases of basal-like breast cancer, and that inhibiting T GF-β signaling results in a therapeutic effect independently of the tissue-tropism of the metastatic cells.

Microglia-derived TGF-beta as an important regulator of glioblastoma invasion--an inhibition of TGF-beta-dependent effects by shRNA against human TGF-beta type II receptor.
TLDR
Plasmid-transcribed small hairpin RNAs were developed to downregulate the TGF-beta type II receptor (TbetaIIR) expression, which effectively inhibited cytokine-induced signaling pathways and transcriptional responses in transiently transfected human glioblastoma cells.

TGF-beta signaling in tumor suppression and cancer progression.
TLDR
The role of TGF-beta is evaluated as both a tumor suppressor pathway and a promoter of tumor progression and invasion and the positive and negative effects of T GF-beta are attempted to reconcile.
Transforming growth factor-beta1 level correlates with angiogenesis, tumor progression, and prognosis in patients with nonsmall cell lung carcinoma.
TLDR
TGF-beta1 seems to affect tumor angiogenesis and to play an important role in tumor progression in patients with nonsmall cell lung carcinoma, and the TGF- beta1 protein level may be an independent predictor of survival in Patients with adenocarcinoma of the lung.
Soluble type II transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-beta) receptor inhibits TGF-beta signaling in COLO-357 pancreatic cancer cells in vitro and attenuates tumor formation.
TLDR
The results indicate that endogenous TGF-betas can confer a growth advantage in vivo to a pancreatic cancer cell line that is growth inhibited in vitro and suggest that a soluble receptor approach can be used to block these tumorigenic effects of TGF -betas.
