Norepinephrine (NE) depletion caused by damage to locus ceruleus neurons was shown to worsen experimental Parkinsonism induced by the neurotoxin 1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6tetrahydropyridine (MPTP) in monkeys and in rodents.
