The aim of this study was to determine what effects social isolation and confinement stress had on the volume regulating hormones. In six healthy male subjects, during a 28-d isolation and confinement study (ESA-ISEMSI'90), hematocrit, blood pressure and resting heart rate, plasma cortisol, renin, aldosterone, arginine vasopressin levels besides the electrolyte (Na+, K+) balance and plasma creatinine were measured.
