We investigated the effects of 17betaestradiol and two selective estrogen receptor modulators, tamoxifen and raloxifene, on the expression and release of constitutive and interleukin-1-stimulated interleukin (IL)-6, transforming growth factor-beta1 (TGF-beta1) and insulin-like growth factor-1 by osteoblasts in primary culture from trabecular bone of healthy post-menopausal women.
