Objectives Worldwide, many infected individuals are unaware of their hepatitis B virus (HBV) status. We evaluated the effectiveness of HBV rapid testing in promoting linkage-to-care. Methods In 2012, volunteers were recruited from five Parisian centers. Participants were randomized 1 : 1 to receive standard serology (S) or rapid testing (VIKIA-HBsAg/Quick Profile anti-HBsAb) with confirmatory serology (R+S). The primary endpoint was percentage of individuals with appropriate linkage-to-care…
Testing for hepatitis B virus alone does not increase vaccine coverage in non-immunized persons
TLDR
HBV-vaccination after HBV screening was very low in this study, which appeared largely attributed to physician-patient motivation towards vaccination.
Poor sensitivity of rapid tests for the detection of antibodies to the hepatitis B virus: implications for field studies
TLDR
The assays had a low sensitivity and high specificity, which indicated their use for screening in regions endemic for HBV, and were evaluated under different Brazilian settings.
Self-reported patient history to assess hepatitis B virus serological status during a large screening campaign
TLDR
Self-reportedHBV-status based on participant history is partially inadequate for determining serological HBV- status, especially between negative/vaccinated individuals.
Point-of-Care Tests for Hepatitis B: An Overview
TLDR
This review presents currently available point-of-care tests for hepatitis B and their roles in the care cascade, reviewing evidence for testing performance, utility, acceptability, costs and cost-effectiveness when integrated into hepatitis B diagnosis and monitoring programs.
Clinical performance of Determine HBsAg 2 rapid test for Hepatitis B detection
TLDR
The Determine HBsAg 2 test gives 15‐minute results with high sensitivity and specificity, making it an ideal tool for point‐of‐care testing, with the potential to enable large‐scale population‐wide screening to reach the WHO HBV diagnostic targets.
Challenges for hepatitis B virus cure in resource-limited settings in sub-Saharan Africa.

Current opinion in HIV and AIDS
  • 2020
TLDR
The unique challenges for hepatitis B virus (HBV) cure faced in resource-limited settings in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA), where access to disease prevention measures, medical testing, and treatment are limited are highlighted.
2014 French guidelines for hepatitis B and C screening: a combined targeted and mass testing strategy of chronic viruses namely HBV, HCV and HIV
TLDR
Given the current availability of highly effective anti‐HBV and anti‐HCV agents, the high rate of undiagnosed people, associated with individual and community prejudices, is unacceptable.
Research gaps in viral hepatitis
TLDR
The World Health Organization has aimed for global elimination of both hepatitis B virus (HBV) and hepatitis C virus (HCV) by 2030, yet the final steps to usher in elimination require further evidence.

Current State of and Needs for Hepatitis B Screening: Results of a Large Screening Study in a Low-Prevalent, Metropolitan Region
TLDR
Applying CDC-recommendations could improve HBV-screening, but with the disadvantage of many tests, and physician's discretion for testing HBV was not significantly associated with participants' geographical origin or IDU.
Public health implications of rapid hepatitis C screening with an oral swab for community-based organizations serving high-risk populations.
TLDR
OraQuick's accuracy is comparable to the EIA and could help HCV screening programs reach individuals unaware of their status and expand testing into nonclinical settings such as mobile units.
Simultaneous Human Immunodeficiency Virus-Hepatitis B-Hepatitis C Point-of-Care Tests Improve Outcomes in Linkage-to-Care: Results of a Randomized Control Trial in Persons Without Healthcare Coverage
TLDR
It is demonstrated that simultaneous HIV/HBV/HCV point-of-care rapid testing improves screening outcomes and increased awareness of infection status likely helped link patients to care.
Prevalence of hepatitis B and hepatitis C virus infections in France in 2004: Social factors are important predictors after adjusting for known risk factors
TLDR
Anti‐HCV prevalence was close to the 1990s estimates whereas HBsAg prevalence estimate was greater than expected, and Screening of hepatitis B and C should be strengthened and should account for social vulnerability.
The state of hepatitis B and C in Europe: report from the hepatitis B and C summit conference *
TLDR
For both HBV and HCV, screening of individuals who present a high risk of contracting the virus is critical given the asymptomatic, and thereby silent, nature of disease.

TLDR
Routine testing for HBsAg now is recommended for additional populations withHBsAg prevalence of >/=2%: persons born in geographic regions with HBs Ag prevalence, men who have sex with men, and injection-drug users.
Hepatitis and liver cancer: a national strategy for prevention and control of hepatitis B and C.
TLDR
Lack of awareness about the prevalence of chronic viral hepatitis in the United States and about the proper methods and target populations for screening and medical management of chronic hepatitis B and hepatitis C probably contributes to continuing transmission.
