Gene expression analysis using microarrays of synthetic long oligonucleotides is limited in that it requires substantial amounts of RNA. To obtain these quantities from minute amounts of starting material, protocols were developed that linearly amplify mRNA by cDNA synthesis and in vitro transcription.
