PURPOSE Osteonecrosis of the jaw (ONJ) is a growing concern in patients who receive bisphosphonates that target osteoclasts. As osteoclasts play multifunctional roles in the bone marrow, their suppression likely affects bone homeostasis and alters wound healing of the jaw.
