Effect of withdrawal of phosphorus on nitrate assimilation and PEP carboxylase activity in tomato

Abstract

Tomato plants (Lycopersicon esculentum) grown in a complete nutrient solution for 8 days were transferred to a P-free solution of pH 6.0. Within 2 days of transfer the rate of alkalinization of the nutrient solution declined and by 4 days the solution had become acid. Nitrate transferred from roots to leaves was depressed over this period, and the rate of… (More)
