The effect of starvation on the activity of the tricarboxylate carrier has been investigated in intact rat liver mitochondria and in a reconstituted system. In both experimental conditions, the rate of citrate transport, when compared to control, is greatly reduced (35-40%) in starved rats. Similar behaviour is shown by the cytosolic lipogenic enzymes. Kinetic analysis of the carrier activity in intact mitochondria and in the proteoliposomal system has showed that during starvation only the… Expand
Covariance of tricarboxylate carrier activity and lipogenesis in liver of polyunsaturated fatty acid (n-6) fed rats.
TLDR
Results indicate a coordinated modulation of citrate carrier and of lipogenic enzyme activities by PUFA feeding by feeding rats with a 15%-fat diet composed of high linoleic safflower oil. Expand
Hypothyroidism down-regulates mitochondrial citrate carrier activity and expression in rat liver.
TLDR
Western blot analysis associated with mRNA quantitation indicated that both protein level and mRNA accumulation of hepatic CiC were noticeably decreased in hypothyroid state, suggesting a reduced content of the carrier protein can represent a plausible mechanism to explain the decline in the CiC activity observed in rat liver mitochondria of Hypothyroid rats. Expand
Starvation-induced posttranscriptional control of rat liver mitochondrial citrate carrier expression.
TLDR
Results suggest that in starved rats the regulation of hepatic CTP expression occurs at posttranscriptional level, and the reduced CTP activity in starved animals gradually increased by refeeding. Expand
Reduced activity and expression of mitochondrial citrate carrier in streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats.
TLDR
The data indicated that both insulin and glucose affect CiC activity and expression in diabetic rats, although they act at different regulatory steps. Expand
Kinetics of the Reconstituted Tricarboxylate Carrier from Eel Liver Mitochondria
TLDR
The tricarboxylate carrier from eel liver mitochondria was purified by chromatography on hydroxyapatite and Matrix Gel Blue B and reconstituted into liposomes by removal of the detergent with Amberlite and catalyzed a first-order reaction of citrate/citrate orcitrate/malate exchange. Expand
A krill oil supplemented diet reduces the activities of the mitochondrial tricarboxylate carrier and of the cytosolic lipogenic enzymes in rats.
TLDR
In rats fed with a diet enriched with 2.5% krill oil, a time-dependent decrease in the activities of the mitochondrial tricarboxylate carrier and of the lipogenic enzymes was found and a greater reduction in the levels of hepatic triglycerides and cholesterol was found in comparison to FO-fed rats. The mitochondrial citrate carrier: Metabolic role and regulation of its activity and expression
TLDR
The citrate carrier (CiC), a nuclear‐encoded protein located in the mitochondrial inner membrane, is a member of the mitochondrial carrier family and its reconstituted function characterized as well as its cDNA isolated and sequenced are assessed. Expand
The mitochondrial tricarboxylate carrier: unexpected increased activity in starved silver eels.
TLDR
The higher activity of the tricarboxylate carrier from silver eels could be ascribed, at least in part, to a different composition of the lipid domain surrounding the carrier protein, possibly in response to the hormonal alterations accompanying metamorphosis from yellow to silver stage. Expand
Conjugated linoleic acid and hepatic lipogenesis in mouse: role of the mitochondrial citrate carrier Published, JLR Papers in Press, June 30, 2006.
TLDR
Data indicate that the CIC may play a role in the onset of hepatic steatosis in CLA-fed mice by supplying the carbon source for de novo fatty acid synthesis. Expand
Mitochondrial tricarboxylate and dicarboxylate–Tricarboxylate carriers: from animals to plants
TLDR
An assessment of the current understanding of CiC and DTC structural and biochemical characteristics, underlying the structure–function relationship of these carriers is provided and a phylogenetic relationship between CiC & DTC is proposed. Expand

Streptozotocin-induced alterations in the levels of functional mitochondrial anion transport proteins.
TLDR
The observed diabetes-induced changes in mitochondrial anion transporter function are predictable on the basis of diabetes- induced alterations in the activities of enzymes that constitute metabolic pathways to which these transporters either supply substrate or remove product. Expand
Decreased activity of the pyruvate translocator and changes in the lipid composition in heart mitochondria from hypothyroid rats.
TLDR
It is suggested that the decreased activity of the pyruvate translocator in heart mitochondria from hypothyroid rats can be ascribed to changes in the lipid environment which surrounds the pyrivate carrier molecule in the mitochondrial membrane. Expand
Role of the citrate transporter in the control of fatty acid synthesis.
TLDR
The effects of fasting on the rate of fatty acid synthesis, the properties of the mitochondrial citrate transporter and on pyruvate dehydrogenase activity were investigated in host liver preparations and in “poorly differentiated” Morris hepatoma, and the identification of possible regulatory sites in the control of lipogenesis were discussed. Factors affecting the kinetics and equilibrium of exchange reactions of the citrate-transporting system of rat liver mitochondria.
Abstract Benzene 1,2,3-tricarboxylic acid was found to be a sufficiently potent inhibitor of citrate transport by rat liver mitochondria that it may be used in "inhibitor stop" experiments. It wasExpand
Kinetic study of the dicarboxylate carrier in rat liver mitochondria.
TLDR
The kinetics of citrate uptake by malate-loaded mitochondria were measured using the inhibitor stop method and it was concluded that the tricarboxylate carrier has a single binding site for tricARboxylates, phosphoenolpyruvate and dicar boxylates. Expand
Enhanced cytochrome oxidase activity and modification of lipids in heart mitochondria from hyperthyroid rats.

The results support the conclusion that the enhanced cytochrome oxidase activity in heart mitochondrial preparations from hyperthyroid rats is due to a specific increase in the content of cardiolipin. Expand
