Ribavirin (1-beta-D-ribofuranosyl-1,2,4-triazole-3-carboxamide) at concentrations of 10 microgram/ml or more, inhibited the replication of infectious pancreatic necrosis virus (IPNV) in both Chinook salmon embryo (CHSE-214) and rainbow trout gonad (RTG-2) cells. The drug was most effective when added just before or within 8 h p.i. Incorporation studies with radioactive precursors demonstrated that ribavirin suppressed cellular DNA and RNA synthesis within 2 to 3 h after addition of the drug…

Inhibitory Effect of a Nucleotide Analog on Infectious Salmon Anemia Virus Infection
TLDR
Ribavirin is an antiviral that could be used to prevent ISAV replication either in vitro or in vivo, and in vivo assays showed a reduction in the mortality of Salmo salar by more than 90% in fish infected with ISAV and treated with ribavirin without adverse effects.
Inhibition of nervous necrosis virus by ribavirin in a zebrafish larvae model
Ribavirin stimulates the immune response of Atlantic salmon.
On the Approach to the Viral Chemotherapy against Infectious Hematopoietic Necrosis Virus (IHNV) in Vitro and in Vivo on Salmonid Fishes
TLDR
Eleven effective compounds against IHNV infection in vitro and in vivo were selected which showed the 50% inhibition of CPE spot within 10 μg/ml and were not observed the cytotoxicity within 10μm; some of the mode of action of compounds will be discussed.
Salmonid fish viruses and cell interactions at early steps of the infective cycle.
TLDR
The hypothesis that IHNV is less efficient at completing its growth cycle in cells with a simultaneous infection with IPNV is supported and can be affected at several stages of viral infection and is more sensitive to the action of antiviral compounds.

Reversible Inhibition of Cellular Metabolism by Ribavirin
TLDR
The broad spectrum antiviral drug ribavirin inhibits cellular macromolecular synthesis as well as cell division in eucaryotic cells and can be reversed by removing the drug from the cells.
Relationship of a virus from Tellina tenuis to infectious pancreatic necrosis virus.
TLDR
The physicochemical and serological properties of a virus isolated from the bivalve mollusc, Tellina tenuis, and the close similarity in morphology and physiochemical properties suggests that Tellina virus and IPN virus belong to the same virus group.
The structure of infectious pancreatic necrosis virus RNA.
The RNA from infectious pancreatic necrosis virus has been purified and had a sedimentation velocity of 14S on sucrose gradients, a buoyant density of 1-60 g/ml in CS2SO4 and pyrimidine to purine
Size and structure of the genome of infectious pancreatic necrosis virus.
  • P. Dobos
  • Biology
    Nucleic acids research
  • 1976
TLDR
Since infectious pancreatic necrosis virus contains only two dsRNA segments it does not belong to the family Reoviridae and may represent a new group of viruses, indicating the absence of exposed single strainded regions in the viral genome.
Broad-Spectrum Antiviral Activity of Virazole: 1-f8- D-Ribofuranosyl- 1,2,4-triazole- 3-carboxamide
Virazole is a synthetic nucleoside active in tissue culture against at least 16 DNA and RNA viruses. Applied topically, it inhibits herpetic keratitis in rabbits and tail lesions induced by herpes,
Mechanism of action of 1- -D-ribofuranosyl-1,2,4-triazole-3-carboxamide (Virazole), a new broad-spectrum antiviral agent.
TLDR
Results suggest that the antiviral activity of Virazole might be due to the inhibition of GMP biosynthesis in the infected cell at the step involving the conversion of IMP to xanthosine 5'-phosphate, which would result in inhibition of the synthesis of vital viral nucleic acid.
Physico-chemical and morphological features of infectious pancreatic necrosis virus.
TLDR
Infectious pancreatic necrosis (IPN) virus has been purified and some physicochemical properties of its nucleic acid and protein moieties have been determined, and appears to be related to some reo-like viruses, having a single protein shell and a single class of double-stranded RNA.
Synthesis of tetrazole ribonucleosides and their evaluation as antiviral agents.
TLDR
Results are presented on antiviral testing of these synthetic tetrazole nucleosides against influenza A2/Asian/J-305 virus infection in mice and on stereochemical structure of the parent tetrazoles ribonucleoside by means of nuclear Overhauser effect and x-ray crystallography.
Virus-Specific RNA Synthesis in Cells Infected by Infectious Pancreatic Necrosis Virus
TLDR
Infectious pancreatic necrosis viral 24S mRNA was thought to be the viral mRNA, and radioactivity could be chased from 24S single-stranded RNA to dsRNA, indicating that 24S RNA may serve as template for the synthesis of complementary strands to form ds RNA.
MULTIPLICATION OF INFECTIOUS PANCREATIC NECROSIS VIRUS *
TLDR
A multiplication curve of extracellular or “free” virus but intracellular events with regard to multiplication of the virus have not yet been reported in detail and several metabolic inhibitors on multiplication are presented.
