Our goals were to examine the dual-directional regulation effects of resveratrol (1) in vitro by using MCF-7 cells (estradiol receptor-positive cells), study its mechanism of action, and give a systematical analysis of the regulatory networks of each related factor. An MTT test and growth curve showed that the proliferation of MCF-7 cells was inhibited by a high concentration of 1, and that its IC50 was 8.70 × 10− 5 ± 0.23 mol/l. However, 1 induced the proliferation of MCF-7 cells at 10− 7–10…
Induction of Apoptosis by Polyphenolic Compounds in Cancer Cells
TLDR
Polyphenols (alone or in combination) are major constituents of plant-derived antioxidants that induce apoptosis by variety of mechanisms in cancer cells and reduce the risk of cancer.
Dose-dependent interaction of trans-resveratrol with biomembranes: effects on antioxidant property.
TLDR
The complex admittance plots obtained for the lipid bilayer show that resveratrol below 60 μM preferentially interacts with the polar headgroups at the membrane-electrolyte interface, leading to enhanced membrane admittance and vice versa at higher concentrations (>60 μM).

Differential sensitivity of normal and malignant breast epithelial cells to genistein is partly mediated by p21(WAF1).
TLDR
It is found that genistein causes a greater degree of G(2)-M arrest and induces apoptosis in malignant cell lines compared with normal breast epithelial cells, and p21(WAF1) may play an important role in determining the sensitivity of normal and malignant breast epithelium cells to Genistein.
Caspase cascade of Fas-mediated apoptosis in human normal endometrium and endometrial carcinoma cells.
TLDR
The main apoptotic signalling in both normal human endometrial tissue and HHUA cells exposed to anti-Fas mAb is the mitochondrial pathway via Bid degradation, which may be regulated by FLIP(L) expression on HH UA cells derived from humanendometrial carcinoma.
In Vivo Structure of Two Divergent Promoters at the Human PCNA Locus
TLDR
It is suggested that silencing of the PCNA gene is accomplished through base pairing between sense pre-mRNA and antisense RNA and the binding of S phase-specific E2F complexes at the +583 element may help to overcome the negative effect of the antisense transcript, which results in up-regulation of PCNAexpression in proliferating cells.

Risks and benefits of estrogen plus progestin in healthy postmenopausal women: Principal results from the Women's Health Initiative randomized controlled trial
TLDR
Overall health risks exceeded benefits from use of combined estrogen plus progestin for an average 5.2-year follow-up among healthy postmenopausal US women, and the results indicate that this regimen should not be initiated or continued for primary prevention of CHD.
Cholesterol-lowering effect of soy protein in normocholesterolemic and hypercholesterolemic men.
TLDR
It is indicated that soy protein enhances the hypocholesterolemic effect of the NCEP Step I diet in both normocholesterolesmic and hypercholesterololemic men.
Structural features of diverse ligands influencing binding affinities to estrogen α and estrogen β receptors. Part II. Molecular descriptors calculated from conformation of the ligands in the complex resulting from previous docking study
A QSAR study is reported, in which the relationship between chemical structure of a set of compounds and the binding affinity to human estrogen receptor α and β (ER-α and ER-β) is modelled.
