The theory of diffusion in isotropic media is based on the hypothesis that the rate of transfer of diffusing particles through unit area of a section is proportional to the concentration gradientt whereby the proportionality factor D (cmZ/sec) is termed diffusion coefficient, D is used in the analysis of nonsteadystate exchange processes as well as in steadystate transfers coupled with chemical reactions.
