RationaleAllopregnanolone (ALLO) is an endogenous neuroactive steroid thought to alter the reinforcement value of alcohol (ethanol) due to its actions as a positive modulator of the GABAA receptor (GABAAR). Extrasynaptic GABAARs may be a particularly sensitive target of ethanol and neuroactive steroids.
