BACKGROUND: The accumulation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in kiwifruit can cause oxidative damage during storage. Little research has been carried out on the effects of nitric oxide (NO) on oxidative damage to kiwifruit. Therefore the aim of the present study was to evaluate the ability of 0.5, 1 and 2 µmol L−1 NO aqueous solutions to alleviate oxidative damage to kiwifruit during storage. RESULTS: The most marked effect was obtained with 1 µmol L−1 NO solution, which significantly reduced… Expand
Effects of nitric oxide on mitochondrial oxidative defence in postharvest peach fruits.
TLDR
By delaying the decrease of mitochondrial permeability transition, 15 µmol L(-1) NO treatment could promote a more stable internal medium in mitochondria of Feicheng peach fruit. Expand
Effects of nitric oxide on reactive oxygen species and antioxidant capacity in Chinese Bayberry during storage
TLDR
Fumigation with NO inhibits ethylene production and disease incidence, and delay the decrease in firmness, total phenolics contents and DPPH radical-scavenging activity in Chinese bayberry fruits, indicating that NO might maintain the balance between the formation and detoxification of ROS, enhance the resistance of tissues to decay and preserve better quality of Chinese bayberries. Expand
Effect of NO on oxidative damage to mitochondrial membrane in harvested plum fruit.
【Objective】 This paper aimed to study the effects of nitric oxide (NO) on oxidative damage by reactive oxygen species (ROS) to mitochondrial membrane in harvested plum fruit (Prunus salicina Lindl.).Expand
Cold-induced endogenous nitric oxide generation plays a role in chilling tolerance of loquat fruit during postharvest storage
Abstract The effects of low temperature on endogenous nitric oxide (NO) generation and the role of endogenous NO in chilling tolerance of loquat fruit during cold storage were investigated. LowExpand
Regulation of ascorbate-glutathione cycle in peaches via nitric oxide treatment during cold storage
Abstract The accumulation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) under stress conditions has great potential to damage fruit. The ascorbate-glutathione cycle is an essential metabolic pathway thatExpand
Interactive effects of abscisic acid and nitric oxide on chilling resistance and active oxygen metabolism in peach fruit during cold storage.
TLDR
Application of exogenous ABA could increase the resistance to cold-induced oxidative stress by enhancing the efficiency of enzymatic and non-enzymatic systems, which were partially mediated by NO. Expand
Nitric oxide alleviates deterioration and preserves antioxidant properties in ‘Tainong’ mango fruit during ripening
We investigated the effects of nitric oxide (NO) on quality, membrane lipid peroxidation, and antioxidant enzymes in mango (Mangifera indica L. cv ‘Tainong’) fruit during ripening. Fruits wereExpand
Effects of nitric oxide treatment on active oxygen metabolism and flesh lignification in bamboo shoots
TLDR
It is suggested that pre-treatment with 0.5 mM SNP could maintain the balance between the formation and the removal of active oxygen species in bamboo shoots, and thereby prevent the development of flesh lignification and the associated decline in post-harvest shoot quality. Expand
Effect of nitric oxide (NO) and associated control treatments on the metabolism of fresh-cut apple slices in relation to development of surface browning
Abstract Surface browning is an important cause of deterioration of fresh-cut apples during postharvest handling. ‘Granny Smith’ apple slices treated with NO gas (10 μL/L) and the NO donor compoundExpand
Changes in quality and defense resistance of kiwifruit in response to nitric oxide treatment during storage at room temperature.
Abstract The effects of nitric oxide (NO) treatment on quality and disease resistance of kiwifruit ( Actinidia deliciosa ) cv. ‘Bruno’ were investigated after the fruits were immersed in 0.2 mMExpand
