In-vivo synthesis of the white-clover lectin, trifoliin A, was examined by the incorporation of labeled amino acids into protein during heterotrophic growth of intact Trifolium repens L. seedlings. Lectin synthesis was quantified by measuring the level of labeled protein immunoprecipitated from root exudate, from the hapten (2-deoxyglucose) eluate of the roots, and from root and shoot homogenates.
