A new antibiotic ichthyomycin produced by Streptomyces sp. strain 1107 was tested for its toxicity and effect on the ultrastructure of tissues of larvae of Culex pipiens autogenicus. Concentrations used were 5 x 10(-7), 2.5 x 10(-7), 1.5 x 10(-7) and 1 x 10(-7) g ml-1. The mortality of larvae after 24 h exposure was 90, 30, 0 and 0%, and after 48 h was 100, 100, 87 and 0%, respectively. The effect of the antibiotic was most evident on mitochondria. They distended and ruptured with subsequent…
In SituAssessment at Subcellular Level of the Effects of Macrotetrolide Insecticides on Mites by Electron Microscopy and X-Ray Microanalysis
Electron microprobe X-ray analysis was used to measure the elemental content in single organelles directly in situ on ultrathin sections, in both macrotetrolide-treated and control tissue, and this approach may find numerous applications in the assessment of the effects of various noxas on environment.
Larvicidal, repellent, and ovicidal activity of marine actinobacteria extracts against Culex tritaeniorhynchus and Culex gelidus
The marine actinobacterial extracts showed moderate to high larvicidal effects after 24 h of exposure at 1,000 ppm and the highest larval mortality was found in extract of LK-3, and mean percent hatchability of the ovicidal activity was observed, indicating an ideal ecofriendly approach for the control of Japanese encephalitis vectors.
Larvicidal potency of marine actinobacteria isolated from mangrove environment against Aedes aegypti and Anopheles stephensi
The marine soil samples were collected from different locations of Parangipettai mangrove ecosystem, Vellar estuary, southeast coast of India and five isolates have shown a most significant mortality rate of the Ae.
