Three high antibiotic-producing strains of Penicillium chrysogenum (Wisconsin Q176, 51-20F3, and 49-133) were examined for their ability to grow and produce penicillin in nutrient solutions containing pure heavy water. Penicillin titer values and pH changes were observed over the culture study period. Wisconsin Q176 responded most favorably.
