AbstractWhile similar in nature, the properties of silica and silsesquioxane are very different, but little is known about these differences. In this paper, functionalized silsesquioxane microparticles are synthesized by adapting the modified Stöber method and post-functionalized with rhodamine B. The as-synthesized silsesquioxane particles are characterized by a variety of physical and chemical methods. The synthesized particles are amorphous and nonporous in nature and are less dense than…

Diamine Groups on the Surface of Silica Particles as Complex-Forming Linkers for Metal Cations

Novel spherically shaped organosilica materials with (propyl)ethylenediamine groups were obtained via a modified one-pot Stöber co-condensation method. The porosity of these materials was tuned with

A Polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS) doped with cerium (III) was synthesized and reacted with potassium hexacyanoferrate (SCeH). The vibrational, structural, morphological and

Nonlinear Agglomeration of Bimodal Colloids under Microgravity

Abstract A study of like-charged, bimodal colloidal suspensions was conducted in microgravity aboard the International Space Station as part of NASA's Advanced Colloids Experiments-Heated-2 (ACE-H-2)

Design and Synthesis of Functional Silsesquioxane-Based Hybrids by Hydrolytic Condensation of Bulky Triethoxysilanes

This paper presents a short overview of recent advances in the design and synthesis of organic-inorganic hybrids using silsesquioxane-based nanoparticles having nanometer size, relatively narrow size

Controlled Synthesis of Novel Metalated Poly(aminohexyl)-(aminopropyl)silsesquioxane Colloids

A new family of polysilsesquioxanes colloids was synthesized by hydrolytic condensation of a functionalized precursor N-(6-aminohexyl)aminopropyltrimethoxysilane (AHAPS),

Stabilized Blue Luminescent Polyfluorenes: Introducing Polyhedral Oligomeric Silsesquioxane

A new POSS (polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane)-substituted polyfluorene was synthesized from the nickel-catalyzed Yamamoto coupling reaction. The synthesized polymers could be well characterized

Synthesis and Characterization of Polyfunctional Polyhedral Silsesquioxane Cages.

Octavinylsilsesquioxane (OVS, [VinylSiO1.5]8) with perfect 3-D or cubic symmetry is elaborated through metathesis with substituted styrenes to produce a series of RStyrenylOS compounds.

Precipitation of amorphous SiO2 particles and their properties

The experimental conditions were optimized for the synthesis of amorphous SiO2 particles by the reaction of neutralization of sodium silicate solution with H2SO4 solution. Amorphous SiO2 particles

Effect of silica nanoparticles and BTCA on physical properties of cotton fabrics

Silica nanoparticles particles were synthesized from rice hulls and characterized. The particles were found to be amorphous in nature, ranging in size from 50 to 100 nm. The concentration of silica

Polyhedral Oligomeric Silsesquioxane as a Ligand for CdSe Quantum Dots

We report the synthesis of CdSe quantum dots (QDs) using a mercapto-substituted polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (SH-POSS). The bulky siloxane cage-like core of the ligand makes this an ideal
