There is now consistent evidence from two major clinical trials (the Fenofibrate Intervention and Event Lowering in Diabetes and the Action to Control Cardiovascular Risk in Diabetes Eye) that fenofibrate arrests the progression of diabetic retinopathy in type 2 diabetic patients.
